Boeing Reveals Previous Undisclosed Customer as Gardua Indonesia.

October 12, 2014

Garuda Indonesia has been annouced as the unidentifed customer that ordered a total of 50 737 MAX 8s from Boeing. This order looks to be the September 12, 2014 order for 50 aircraft. The order represents a total of $4.9 billion USD at "list prices". This order actually represents 46 new orders from Garuda Indonesia, as they are converting 4 orders for the 737-800 Next Generation to the 737 Max. Garuda Indonesia is currently flying 77 737's and will continue to fly the aircraft with this order, keeping aircraft commonality.

The 737 MAX 8 seats 175 passengers in a typical 1-class configuration.

Boeing's 737 Max Order Book now stands at 2,295 jets with this new order, unchanged after this announcement.

The Boeing 737 MAX
The jet is Boeing's upgraded version of the 737 to keep it competitive with other aircraft and provide better efficiency for customers. The main improvement is with the new engine, the CFM International LEAP-1B. These new engines, lower weight, improved aerodynamics and other improvements will help the 737 MAX be 14 percent more fuel efficient then the current 737 Next Generation (NG) aircraft and 20 percent better then the previous NG version. Boeing is also claiming that it will have 8 percent lower operating costs per seat when compared to Airbus's A320neo. Also part of the upgrades to the 737 are enlarged displays in the flight deck.
